CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Charging toward Thorn, the guard let out a fierce yell as his whole body erupted with a bright-red flame that burned with intense heat. Thorn could tell that if the flames hit him it would be a problem, so he waved his staff and summoned a stone wall that quickly transformed into a hand that wrapped itself around the flaming guard. Yet even as his spell finished, Thorn knew it wouldn’t hold. The red flame was fiercer than any flame he had ever encountered, and it melted the stone hand apart as quickly as it could be formed.

Frowning, Thorn sent a surge of mana into the earth, causing more stone to rise and surround the guard who was trying to fight his way forward. It would have been relatively easy for Thorn to use his ancient runes and slay the enraged man, but he was wary about revealing the extent of his strength, so he tried to look for a solution in his earth magic. Already, the guard was surrounded by a pool of molten stone, so Thorn cast another spell from his broad range, this one he had seen used countless times in Angoril by his friend Mina.
